About the Teacher

Aparna Gurumurthy started learning Bharatanatyam at the age of 6 under Sheela Krishnan, a Kalakshetra artist. At the age of 9, she was put under the direct tutelage of Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam at Nrithyodaya where her journey continued for the next 15 years. She completed “Nritya Praveshika” , “Nritya Visharada” certification courses along with Nritya Sali – mastering of 108 Karanas. She completed her teacher training at Nrithyodaya and performed her Nattuvangam Arangetram. She holds 5 years experience in being a teaching staff at Nrithyodaya and also have assisted the professors of bachelor’s and master’s degree of fine arts conducted by Nrithyodaya along with SASTRA university, Tanjore.

She has been a part of various group performances of Nrithyodaya in and around India and Malaysia, Singapore and has performed in major roles with her guru Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam in the productions- “Pavai Nonbu”, “Gurave Namaha”. Aparna has also done solo performances for Mylapore Fine Arts, Karthik Fine Arts during the prestigious December Season. She also had the opportunity to participate in the classical dance TV show ‘Thaka Dhimi Tha’ and in Semmozhi maanaadu conducted by the Tamil Nadu Government in 2010. She can be spotted in the front row of 1000 dancers performance for celebrating the 1000th year of Tanjore Big temple that is available in Youtube.

Currently she is pursuing Master’s degree in the field of Bharatanatyam from the University of Silicon Andhra, California.

Students

Aparna Gurumurthy’s students are active performers in the DMV area . They perform regularly in many Hindu temples on various important occasions and has participated in the dance competitions conducted by various non-charitable organization. Our students have been invited to perform in Howard County public schools to spread awareness about multi culture. Our students also had the oppurtunity to perform for Beth Israel Jewish conggregation along with the teacher.
